State Hospital Internship Programs

 

The Wyoming State Hospital offers interships in the following areas:

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Wyoming State Hospital offers a 12-week affiliation for Master's Level Occupational Therapy Students and an 8-week affiliation for Occupational Therapy Assistant Students and meets the AOTA guidelines/requirements.  For more information about the Wyoming State Hospital Occupational Therapy Internship Program, please call Gennifer Young, ORT/L at (307)789-3464 Ext 466 or gennifer.young@health.wyo.gov

 

RECREATIONAL THERAPY INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Wyoming State Hospital offers a 15-week clinical Therapeutic Recreation internship in which a student can increase their experience, knowledge and skills of the therapeutic recreation process under the supervision of an experienced CTRS.  We accept three students per term (spring, summer, fall) to fulfill their internship requirements. Interns are paid $8.10 per hour and are provided dorm style housing during the internship experience.

The Wyoming State Hospital provides an excellent learning opportunity for students through the diverse psychiatric needs of the population we serve. We have several units for persons served including: two acute adult units; a geriatric/medical unit; two forensic units and residential - which includes two group homes, a homeless shelter, ACT program (community based) and a dual diagnosis (mental health/substance abuse) program.  Currently we have 9 full-time CTRS positions and 7 recreation technicians who provide a wide variety of therapeutic interventions and activities through groups and individual sessions for all persons served.  Contact Kathy Argyle, CTRS for more information at (307) 789-3464 Ext. 468 or kathy.argyle@health.wyo.gov

 

SOCIAL WORK INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Wyoming State Hospital provides practicum placement for Master's Level Social Work students from the University of Wyoming and the University of Utah.  There are a variety of placement options offered, as well as room/board and a monthly stipend.  For more information about the Social Work Internship Program, please contact Gary Parker, LCSW, at (307) 789-3464 Ext. 415 or gary.parker@health.wyo.gov

 

PREDOCTORAL PSYCHOLOGY INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Wyoming State Hospital Department of Psychological Services has a year-long pre-doctoral internship program that has been accredited by the American Psychological Association since 1997 and is a member of the Association of Professional Psychology Internship Centers.  The program has two full-time interns who train on Adult Psychiatric Service and Extended Psychiatric Service programs.  Interns receive training through supervised experience providing treatment and assessment to WSH patients, as well as formal didactic training.  Psychology interns are selected each year from a pool of 50-60 applicants.  Click the link below for more information.
